Rosewood Studio School of Fine Woodworking; Tools, Courses, Workshops and Instruction

Why Rosewood

Today more than ever, you have a variety of choices of where to learn fine woodworking. You can choose from one-on-one instruction with the guy teaching from his shop to supplement his furniture making income, to large schools with dozens of people in a class. You can take classes from retailers happy to show you their wares. Which is right for you? Everyone’s needs and situations are different, but when you want to take your work to the next level, we hope you will keep the following benefits we offer in mind.

Instruction from experienced makers
The instructors at Rosewood are more than great teachers with a passion for furniture making – they come with a background of earning their living designing and building furniture in the real world, with an understanding that goes beyond the academic or theoretical. Whatever difficulties students might face, chances are that your instructor has been there, and found a workable solution to the problem.

Student’s success is our only business
Our only business is helping you improve your craftsmanship. You’ll never have to worry about taking a back seat to commission clients, production schedules or delivery deadlines. The backbone of our business is not selling tools either, but helping you to advance your skills.

Excellent ratio of students to instructors and machinery
One on one instruction has its place, but eliminates the possibility of learning from what others are doing in a group atmosphere. On the other hand, you don’t want to get lost in the crowd. We aim to strike an ideal balance between shared learning and individual attention when you need it. And with eight benches and two of most major machines, you spend less time waiting to use machinery, and more time developing your skills.

Complete kits of top quality hand tools
Struggling with poor quality hand tools can be a frustrating waste of time. If you are just starting out, you may be unsure of just what you need, or even just how much of an investment you want to make in your hand tools. We are proud of the top quality tool kits available for student use free of charge while attending Rosewood. We also have a wide variety of makes and models of tools available for you to try out before making purchasing decisions.

Convenient accommodations and dining in a delightful small town location
The town of Perth offers everything from motels and camping to luxury boutique hotels. The choice is yours. And with more than twenty places to eat within 5 blocks of the school, you’re sure to find just what you are hungering for.
